🎓 Work Permit Guide for Students

📋 1. Eligibility

  1. Must be a currently enrolled student.
  2. Must have completed registration and paid tuition fees (Installments: first payment at the Cashier’s Office, remaining at the department office).
  3. Must have a legitimate need to work (e.g., financial reasons, school research/teaching assistantship).
  4. Must apply for and obtain a Work Permit before starting work.
  5. Processing time: Around 7–14 working days.

🗂️ 2. Required Documents

  1. Please complete the university registration first: Internal Application Form.
    After that, fill out the Ministry of Labor online form: Work Permit Application Form.
  2. Copy of both sides of the student ID card.
  3. Copy of a valid passport.
  4. Proof of Enrollment for the current semester.
  5. Post Office payment receipt (Application fee: NT$100).
  6. Winter/Summer vacation applicants: Must additionally provide the Tuition Payment Receipt as proof of enrollment.

3. Work Hour Restrictions

  1. During semester: Maximum 20 hours per week.
  2. During winter/summer vacation: No limit on work hours (subject to employment contract).
  3. Consequences: Working illegally (exceeding hours or without a permit) may result in a fine of NT$30,000–150,000 and deportation.

🔄 4. Lost Work Permit (Re-issuance)

  1. If the work permit is lost, you must immediately report the loss and reapply.
  2. The re-issuance process is the same as the first application, and an additional NT$100 fee is required.
  3. During re-issuance, photocopies or receipts cannot substitute for the permit—you must wait for the new permit to be issued.

🛑 5. Change of Status (Leave, Withdrawal, Graduation)

  1. Leave of Absence / Withdrawal: The Work Permit automatically becomes invalid from the date of status change; you must stop working immediately.
  2. Graduation: The Work Permit becomes invalid upon graduation. To continue working in Taiwan, you must apply for a "Taiwan Employment Gold Card" or other work visa.
  3. Extended Study: If you still hold valid student status, you may continue applying for a Work Permit according to regulations.

ℹ️ 6. Important Notes & Contacts

  1. The maximum validity of a Work Permit is 6 months.
  2. Fall Semester applications: Valid until March 31 of the following year.
  3. Spring Semester applications: Valid until September 30 of the same year.
